In the face of alarming unemployment rates in the North West province, efforts are being made to empower unemployed graduates. The Mafikeng Digital Innovation Hub, says it is working with the Skills Initiative for Africa, SIFA, to find and cultivate innovative solutions for the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Unemployed graduates in Mahikeng are being offered a lifeline through a comprehensive 12-month skills development programme, tailored to equip them for future careers. The initiative is the brainchild of the African Union's AUDA-NEPAD, and supported by the European Union and German Development Cooperation. South Africa is one of the eight African countries selected for pilot projects. According to the 2023 fourth quarter labour force survey, North West is leading the provinces in terms of unemployment, with a rate of 52.2%.
