Shell | Conservationists win for action against Shell

In 2021, there were reports of Shell's intention to conduct seismic testing for oil and gas off the Eastern Cape's Wild Coast. Conservationists raised the alarm on the danger to the Wild Coast's rich biodiversity. Mobilising their community, Nonhle Mbuthuma and Sinegugu Zukulu managed to secure legal intervention, asserting the rights of the local community to protect their marine environment. Sinegugu and Mbuthuma were awarded the Goldman Environmental Prize for their championing of environmental conservation.
